In an emotional post-match celebration at Old Trafford, Ruud van Nistelrooy lingered with Manchester United fans after guiding the team to a 3-0 win over Leicester City in his final game as interim manager. However, the Dutch legend emphasized that the moment was more about shared gratitude than a definitive goodbye, as his future role at the club remains undecided.

A Beautiful Moment, Not a Goodbye

Van Nistelrooy clarified that his extended interaction with fans was not necessarily a farewell. "No, it wasn’t goodbye," he shared. "This was a celebration of the moment—a beautiful connection with the fans. It was gratitude from my side, and their response was unbelievable."

While new head coach Ruben Amorim is set to take over, Van Nistelrooy's future with United is uncertain. There’s a possibility he could stay on as assistant manager, with a decision expected soon. "It felt like a closure of this four-game period, but the future is open," he added.

Impact on Team Morale and Performance

In his four matches as interim manager, Van Nistelrooy’s stabilizing influence on United was evident, with the team securing three wins and a draw. He prioritized restoring the squad’s confidence, which had suffered a rocky start to the season. “My role was to stabilize the team, stick to what they know, and add small adjustments,” he said. His approach had a visible effect, particularly on Bruno Fernandes, who ended a 17-game goal drought with four goals in four matches under Van Nistelrooy’s guidance.

 Foundation for Future

Despite his short tenure, Van Nistelrooy believes he leaves United in strong form for Amorim’s arrival. "There’s a foundation built in these past games—a sense of unity that will be key moving forward," he noted, though he acknowledged room for further growth.

Looking Ahead: A Potential Assistant Role?

Van Nistelrooy’s stint as interim manager was initially meant to be brief, covering only a game or two. As Amorim wrapped up his commitments with Sporting Lisbon, however, the club extended Van Nistelrooy’s role, which has led to speculation about his future on the coaching staff. With the decision yet to be made, Van Nistelrooy expressed gratitude for the club’s transparency, saying, "It’s important to have clarity, and I appreciated that."

For now, Van Nistelrooy leaves with pride, having led United through a pivotal moment—and perhaps laying the groundwork for an ongoing presence in Amorim's new era.
