Gully Boy: Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt raise the roof with a great musical

Gully Boy is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language musical drama film written by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and directed by Akhtar. The film is co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar under the banners of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment productions. Loosely based on the life of street rappers Divine and Naezy, it stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, and features Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in supporting roles.

Gully Boy received positive reviews from critics with praise directed to Akhtar’s direction, Maurya’s dialogues, and Singh and Bhatt for their performances. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 100% rating based on 6 reviews, with an average rating of 7/10. Writing for Film Companion, Baradwaj Rangan gave Gully Boy three stars out of five and found it to be “softer than expected, but hugely entertaining and beautifully made”.

Saibal Chatterjee penning for NDTV gave three stars out of five and feels that Ranveer Singh supported by feisty Alia Bhatt has performed well and opines that inspite of all said and done “Gully Boy can be whole-heartedly commended for its craft, fascinating characters and Ranveer Singh. He absolutely kills the slow-burning rapper act. What’s more, he does with a lot of energy to spare.”Taran Adarsh finds the film fantastic and gives it four out of five stars. He thinks that the ‘film is Zoya Akhtar’s best film to date’. Anna M. M.
