US President Donald Trump says shooting down of US jets will not impact Iran talks

WASHINGTON DC: U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that the recent downing of American military jets will have no bearing on potential diplomatic discussions with Iran.

In his first public response to the loss of U.S. aircraft since the hostilities began, President Trump dismissed the notion that such events would impede negotiations, noting that combat actions and diplomatic initiatives often proceed simultaneously during wartime.

The remarks follow a day of intense aerial engagement where two U.S. warplanes were downed over Iran and the Gulf, according to both Iranian and U.S. officials. These incidents underscore the persistent risks faced by U.S. and coalition aircraft, despite previous assertions from the President and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding total control of the skies.

The first aircraft, a two-seat F-15E Strike Eagle, was shot down by Iranian fire over southwestern Iran. The second, an A-10 Warthog, was hit by ground fire and managed to cross into Kuwaiti airspace before the pilot was forced to eject.

The search-and-rescue efforts for the missing crew have proven equally perilous. Two Black Hawk helicopters involved in the recovery mission were struck by Iranian fire but successfully transitioned out of hostile airspace; however, the extent of injuries among their crews remains unclear. While two pilots from the downed jets have been rescued, the status and whereabouts of the second F-15E crew member remain unknown.

As the search continues, the situation on the ground has grown increasingly tense. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed it is currently combing the rugged terrain where the F-15E crashed, while a regional governor in southwestern Iran has publicly promised a commendation for any citizen who captures or kills ‘forces of the hostile enemy.’

Despite these mounting tactical challenges and the human cost of the mission, the U.S. administration maintains that its broader strategic objectives and the path to a potential settlement remain unchanged.
