US Searches for Missing Airman After Jet Downed Over Iran

Washington D.C.: The United States military has launched a second day of search operations for a missing airman after a fighter jet was shot down over Iran, marking the first confirmed downing of a US warplane in five weeks of conflict.

The aircraft, identified as an F-15E Strike Eagle, went down during operations over Iranian territory. One crew member was successfully rescued, while efforts continue to locate the second airman. Iranian authorities are also searching for the missing individual.

During the rescue mission, a US Black Hawk helicopter came under ground fire but managed to escape without damage or casualties. Around the same time, another US aircraft, an A-10 Warthog attack plane, crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The pilot was rescued safely, though the cause of the crash remains unclear. Iranian officials claimed their air defence systems were responsible.

The incidents present both military and diplomatic challenges for Washington, particularly amid concerns that the missing airman could be captured. US officials had previously suggested that Iran’s air defence capabilities had been significantly weakened, making the loss of the aircraft a notable development in the ongoing conflict.
