Turkish FM, diplomats hold talks

Ankara : The Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Charge d’ Affaires of the Bahraini embassy in Turkey yesterday underlined their resolve to confront all attempts and plots targeting their countries’ security and stability. 

The diplomats, while holding a discussion with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, emphasised their keenness on the interest of the Qatari people in light of the latest developments. 

They briefed him on the steps taken by the three countries on cutting off diplomatic ties with Qatar in light of their commitment to fighting terrorism and drying up its funding sources. 

Citing Qatar’s persistent ignorance in complying with the agreement signed in Riyadh in 2014 pledging not to harbour no persons or organisations threatening security, the diplomats pointed out that this ignorance had put the security of the three countries at risk due to the subversive acts carried out by terrorists and organisations based in Qatar or supported by it.

The diplomats also emphasised to the Turkish Foreign Minister their countries’ keenness on the interest of the Qatari people who are a natural extension of their brethren in the GCC countries.

The ambassador listened to a briefing by the Turkish Foreign Minister of the Turkish government’s assessment of the situation and the efforts made to solve the crisis.

Morocco backs

Meanwhile, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita during a diplomatic meeting said: “the Kingdom of Morocco understands the steps and motives underpinning the decision to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.”

The meeting was attended by Bahraini and Egyptian Ambassadors Khalid bin Salman Al Musallim and Dr Ahmed Ehab Jamaluddine as well as Saudi and UAE Charges d’Affaires Waleed Muqeem and Said Al Kutbi. 

Bourita welcomed the envoys, hailing strong fraternal relations binding his country with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt.

He reviewed with them the statement regarding the decision which was taken to sever diplomatic relations with Qatar.
