Several Vessels Hit by Fire in Gulf Amid Escalating War

Dubai: Several merchant vessels in the northern Gulf and Gulf of Oman suffered damage by military fire overnight, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The maritime watchdog said it could not confirm whether there were any injuries or environmental damage because authorities were still investigating the occurrences.
Separately, a vessel was reported to be listing while anchored around 24 nautical miles northwest of Port Rashid in the UAE, probably due to water ingress caused by a missile strike. The incident was reported by a third party.
The incidents occur as hostilities between the United States and Iran escalate near the Strait of Hormuz. The US Navy recently destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, and Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they later attacked US boats and oil tankers in the Gulf. The growing violence raises concerns about the safety of commercial shipping and global energy supply.
