Kyiv: At least 19 people were killed in a new series of Russian and Ukrainian drone and missile strikes, leading to a sharp rise in attacks distant from the front lines.
Ukraine launched strikes in numerous parts of Russia, including Belgorod, Rostov, and the Moscow area. Russian authorities reported that a huge Ukrainian drone operation killed people and damaged infrastructure, including a large warehouse near Moscow.
Meanwhile, Russia conducted midnight missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, killing civilians and causing damage to houses and infrastructure. A book market in Kyiv was burnt during a strike.
The most recent attacks came as diplomatic attempts to put an end to the conflict slowed down and both sides have continued to increase their use of long-range drones and missiles. Concerns about the increasing risk to civilians and the increasing strain on Ukraine's air defence systems have also been highlighted by the escalation.
