KYIV:  Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court has named former ambassador to Washington, Olga Stefanishyna, a suspect in a corruption case involving illicit enrichment and providing false information in declarations.

Investigators from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau accuse Stefanishyna of holding undeclared apartments and other property worth over 13.9 million hryvnias that cannot be explained by her official income.

The court released her on a bail of 6 million hryvnias ($134,000). Reacting to the investigation, Stefanishyna downplayed the charges, describing the surrounding controversy as a ‘storm in a teacup’.

The legal development comes shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed her from her diplomatic posting in Washington. The envoy role remains crucial for Kyiv as it continues to rely on vital US arms deliveries and intelligence-sharing.
