Venezuelan Leftists Split Over Interim Leader’s US Alignment

Caracas: Seven months after US forces abducted President Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela’s ruling leftist movement is fracturing over interim leader Delcy Rodriguez’s cozy relationship with Washington.
Rodriguez, once a vocal critic of the United States, has reversed course by opening oil and mining sectors to foreign capital and regularly consulting American officials.
This strategic pivot has sparked fierce pushback from die-hard Chavistas, who accuse the administration of a policy of surrender and have organized anti-US street protests in Caracas.
Under Washington's influence, Rodriguez has also suspended oil shipments to long-standing ally Cuba, clashed with Iran, and restored diplomatic relations with Peru and Chile.
The unprecedented internal rift has widened further following the deadly June earthquakes and ongoing transition talks that exclude prominent exile opposition figures.
