Strong 6.3 Quake Jolts Southern Philippines; No Tsunami Warning

Manila: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 6.3-magnitude earthquake off the southern Philippines on Tuesday. The offshore earthquake occurred at a shallow depth, causing vibrations to be felt along the southern coast.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the earthquake was tectonic in origin. Authorities reported no immediate injuries or severe structural damage, but local disaster response teams were inspecting impacted neighbourhoods as a precaution.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology further confirmed that the earthquake was not expected to cause a tsunami, which eased anxieties in coastal regions. Residents were cautioned to stay vigilant for potential aftershocks.
The Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone characterised by frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions caused by tectonic plate movements. Authorities advised the public to heed official warnings and avoid damaged structures until inspections were finished.
