Indonesia Arrests Second Malaysian in Days Over Drug Smuggling

Jakarta: Indonesian officials have arrested a second Malaysian in as many days on suspicion of drug smuggling, after customs agents allegedly discovered over one kilogram of methamphetamine and more than 1,000 ecstasy pills hidden beneath the suspect's corset.
The 22 years old man was arrested after arriving at Surabaya's Juanda International Airport through flight from Kuala Lumpur. Officials said the narcotics were discovered during a body inspection prompted by intelligence, despite an earlier X-ray screening that revealed no anomalies.
The arrest comes just days after Indonesian officials caught a Malaysian airline pilot suspected of smuggling more than 26 kilograms of ecstasy and methamphetamine into Jakarta, increasing fears about cross-border drug trafficking involving Malaysian nationals.
The newly arrested suspect is being investigated under Indonesia's strict narcotics laws, which include harsh penalties, including the death penalty for big drug trafficking offences. Malaysian police have also started collaborating with Indonesian officials on the case.
