Former Australian broadcaster Alan Jones faces sexual assault trial

Sydney: Alan Jones, a former Australian radio broadcaster and former Wallabies coach, arrived in the New South Wales District Court on Monday to begin his high-profile trial over previous sexual assault accusations. The 85-year-old defendant has pleaded not guilty to all 22 allegations.
The charges include 20 cases of indecent assault and two charges of sexual contact without consent, including six male complains. Prosecutors say the attacks occurred between 2003 and 2020, and Jones misused his position and public image to exploit vulnerable young men. Jones denied all charges.
The trial will last about four months, and prosecutors plan to call more than 70 witnesses. The prosecution stems from a police investigation begun in 2023 after media reports brought various charges against the veteran broadcaster to public attention.
Jones, a former national rugby team coach and one of Australia's most renowned radio personalities, announced his retirement from broadcasting in 2020 following a decades-long career in the media. If convicted, he may face severe penalties under Australian law.
