Madrid: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has officially lifted the national state of emergency declared over severe wildfires in the Madrid and Avila regions.
The devastating blazes had previously forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents across both areas. Following a meeting with regional officials on Thursday, Sanchez confirmed that emergency teams agreed to lower the response status to operational level 2, signaling that the immediate threat to local communities has significantly eased.
