South Korea To Provide Advanced Chips To US in $950 bn deals

SEOUL: South Korean semiconductor giants Samsung Electronics and SK hynix have secured supply agreements worth $950 billion with major American technology companies.

The landmark deals were announced during President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to San Francisco, where he met with chief executives from Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Broadcom. 

Under the five-year agreements, SK hynix will supply $750 billion worth of memory chips to Nvidia and other partners to accelerate artificial intelligence infrastructure. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics signed a $200 billion memorandum of understanding with Broadcom covering advanced memory solutions and foundry services for next-generation AI accelerators.

South Korea aims to join the United States and China as a global AI powerhouse by tripling its AI spending this year. High-bandwidth memory chips produced by Samsung and SK hynix are essential hardware components required to train large language models and run physical AI applications

Samsung and SK hynix signed five-year agreements with Nvidia and Broadcom to fuel next-generation artificial intelligence technology development.
