Meta Faces Worldwide Login Disruption

A major global outage disrupted Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, yesterday, leaving users worldwide unable to log in, refresh feeds or access services normally.

The disruption appeared to be caused by a technical issue affecting Meta’s services, with users reporting login failures, broken feeds and difficulties accessing accounts. No indication of a cyberattack was reported, and Meta’s engineering teams worked to restore normal operations.  

Desktop users attempting to access Facebook were greeted with a message stating: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

Reports of problems began increasing during the morning, with a noticeable spike in complaints between around 10:30am and 11am Bahrain time. Users reported difficulties logging in, maintaining active sessions and loading content.

According to internet monitoring and outage tracking services, the impact was more severe on desktop browsers, while some users continued to access Facebook and Instagram through mobile applications with fewer disruptions.

Meta did not immediately provide a detailed public explanation of the technical issue. However, platform performance indicators later stabilised, and core services returned to full operational capacity.
