Ibadan: The principal of a secondary school abducted with teachers and students in Nigeria's Oyo State has described the group's 56-day detention, saying that children were beaten to make them quiet while male educators were blindfolded, tied, and chained.

Mrs. Racheal Alamu, speaking after the victims were handed over to the Oyo State government following their rescue, stated that younger students were severely beaten and gagged with pieces of cloth whenever they cried or made noise, and that the kidnappers repeatedly forced captives to walk long distances through forests at night to avoid security forces. She said that the victims suffered severe conditions in the open forest for about two months, although none were sexually molested while in captivity.

The group was among 46 people taken on May 15 after coordinated attacks on three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, including 39 students and seven teachers. Two instructors were killed in custody before security forces freed the remaining 44 captives, who were returned to authorities on Monday.
