Iranian negotiators have departed for Switzerland ahead of talks with the United States scheduled for June 21, as regional tensions remain high following Iran’s announcement that it will close the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Lebanon.

According to Iranian state media, the delegation left Tehran on Saturday to discuss the implementation of an agreement reached with the United States aimed at halting the conflict in the Middle East.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the Iranian team would seek assurances that all commitments under the agreement are fulfilled.

“The other side must take the necessary measures as soon as possible. Otherwise, the entire understanding will be in trouble,” Baqaei was quoted as saying.

The diplomatic efforts come at a critical moment as fighting continues despite a recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanese authorities reported that fresh Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least 16 people, while Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah positions in response to overnight projectile launches.

Meanwhile, Iran's announcement regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has heightened international concern over global energy supplies and regional security. The strategic waterway is one of the world's most important oil transit routes, carrying a significant share of global crude exports.

The United States military said it remains vigilant following Tehran’s declaration, while regional and international diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation.

The Switzerland talks are expected to focus on implementing the ceasefire framework, reducing regional tensions and ensuring both sides uphold their commitments under the agreement.
