Mashhad: Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Iran on Saturday as diplomatic efforts surrounding the Iran-US peace process continued following the postponement of scheduled negotiations in Switzerland.
The talks between Tehran and Washington, originally planned for Friday in Switzerland, were expected to build on a recently signed memorandum of understanding aimed at ending months of conflict in the Middle East. However, the meeting was postponed, with no new date announced.
According to Iranian media, Naqvi landed in the northeastern city of Mashhad and is expected to hold talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit forms part of Pakistan's ongoing efforts related to the Iran-US negotiations.
Pakistan has emerged as one of the key mediators between Tehran and Washington, alongside Qatar, helping facilitate dialogue that led to the agreement announced earlier this week.
Iran said the agreement with the United States is intended to end hostilities and pave the way for broader negotiations, including discussions on Tehran's nuclear programme.
