SYDNEY: British actress Emaa Hussen faces a potential life sentence after being charged with importing 320 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia, a massive haul valued at approximately A$300 million (US$208 million).
The 34-year-old, known for her television work in EastEnders and film roles including EastEnders, was arrested on June 18, 2026, in Girraween, Western Sydney.
Australian Federal Police executed the operation after discovering the narcotics, which had been expertly concealed within bags of charcoal inside shipping containers arriving from Ghana at Port Botany.
Investigators allege Hussen was actively supervising the unloading process, intending to transport the illicit cargo to a property in Blacktown. Police stated this major interdiction prevented an estimated 3.2 million individual drug deals from reaching Australian communities, highlighting the substantial scale of the smuggling syndicate.
Following her apprehension, Hussen appeared before the Downing Centre Local Court, where she was remanded in jail without bail. With her next court appearance scheduled for August, the actress faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if convicted. This case remains a high-profile development in the Australian authorities' ongoing crackdown against international drug trafficking networks.
