Japan Investigates Cheap Steel Imports From China and Taiwan

Tokyo: Japan has launched an anti-dumping investigation into nickel-based stainless steel imports from China and Taiwan after domestic producers complained that low-cost imports are hurting their business.
Major steelmakers, including Nippon Steel, say cheaper imported steel has forced them to cut prices and reduced profits. They claim the imported products are being sold in Japan at prices significantly below those in their home markets.
Japan's trade and finance ministries will complete the investigation within a year before deciding whether to impose anti-dumping duties.
The case comes amid wider global concerns over excess Chinese steel production and exports, with several countries already taking measures against low-priced imports.
