EU to Resume Ukraine Membership Talks on Monday After Veto Lifted

Brussels: The European Union plans to resume membership talks with Ukraine on Monday after all 27 member states agreed to start the first round of access talks, a major move ahead in Kyiv's plan to join the EU. Moldova will also participate in the talks.
The development comes after Hungary decided to waive a two-year veto that had blocked Ukraine's admission process. The first phase of negotiations will focus on major issues such as the rule of law, judicial reforms, democratic institutions, and human rights.
EU leaders welcomed the action as a significant step forward for European security and unity, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it as a strong gesture of solidarity for his country.
Ukraine asked for EU membership right after Russia launched a full-scale invasion in 2022. Although membership is likely to take years, the upcoming meetings are one of the most important steps in Ukraine's path to joining the European Union.
