‘Death of a Salesman’ Sweeps Tony Awards 2026 With Six Wins

New York: Arthur Miller's iconic drama ‘Death of a Salesman’ emerged as the prestigious winner at the 79th Tony awards, taking home six awards and becoming the most awarded play revival in Tony Awards history. The critically acclaimed Broadway production won Best Revival of a Play, as well as awards for director, scenic design, lighting design, sound design, and featured actress.
British actress Lesley Manville received Best Leading Actress in a Play for her portrayal in ‘Oedipus,’ which marked her spectacular Broadway debut. Her portrayal of Jocasta in Robert Icke's contemporary interpretation of the Greek tragedy was largely acclaimed as one of the season's best performances.
Joe Mantello directed ‘The revival’, which starred Nathan Lane as Willy Loman and Laurie Metcalf as Linda Loman. It was critically acknowledged for its minimalist staging and modern resonance. Metcalf received Best Featured Actress in a Play, her third Tony Award, while Mantello won Best Direction of a Play.
Meanwhile, veteran actor John Lithgow received Best Leading Actor in a Play for his role as author Roald Dahl in ‘Giant.’ Lithgow, 80, became the oldest performer to get the award, winning his third Tony prize more than five decades after his first Broadway honour.
Bess Wohl's Liberation won Best Play, while the stage adaptation of the television musical comedy ‘Schmigadoon!’ won Best Musical and several other major honours, confirming its place as Broadway's best new musical of the season.
The revival of Ragtime had an unforgettable evening, winning Best Revival of a Musical and performance honours for Joshua Henry and Caissie Levy. ‘The Lost Boys and Cats: The Jellicle Ball’ won many honours in the performance and creative categories.
The event, which was hosted by singer Pink at Radio City Music Hall in New York, honoured a record-breaking Broadway season and showcased a year that featured both innovative fresh plays and legendary revivals.
