Washington DC: The United States military said Iran launched seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on Friday in a significant escalation of regional tensions, but reported that most of the projectiles were intercepted before reaching their targets.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), six of the missiles were successfully intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its intended destination. The military also said it had thwarted four Iranian one-way attack drones earlier in the day.
US officials stated that there were no reports of injuries to American personnel following the attacks. CENTCOM also rejected Iranian claims that the strike had damaged the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, describing those reports as false.
The incident marks another sharp escalation in the ongoing confrontation involving Iran and US interests in the Gulf region, where American forces maintain a significant military presence. Kuwait and Bahrain are key US partners and host important military facilities used in regional operations.
The latest missile launches came just hours after the reported drone threats, highlighting continued security concerns across the Gulf as tensions remain high.
