DOHA: Emir Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and US President Donald Trump held a phone call to coordinate regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation and promoting stability.
According to a statement from the Emiri Diwan, Shaikh Tamim highlighted the critical importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions. He advocated for continuous dialogue among all involved parties to effectively consolidate security and prevent further tensions across the region.
The leaders also stressed the vital need to protect maritime navigation, secure strategic waterways, and maintain global supply and energy flows. Tensions have remained high since late February after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran triggered retaliatory actions from Tehran, including attacks on Gulf nations hosting US bases and the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Ongoing discussions built upon a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire that initially took effect on April 8.
