JERUSALEM: The Israeli military announced Wednesday it has killed Mohammad Odeh, the newly appointed chief of Hamas’s military wing, during a targeted airstrike in Gaza City.

The operation occurred on Tuesday in the Rimal neighborhood, where a missile struck the upper floor of an apartment building, killing Odeh alongside his wife and son. Gaza health officials reported that the strike caused at least six fatalities and wounded over 20 other people. Odeh's family confirmed his death, stating his funeral would proceed in Gaza City.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Odeh, the former head of Hamas’s intelligence division, was appointed just a week ago. He took over the role to replace his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was killed by Israel on May 15.
