Washington DC: The United States has approved a massive $4.2 billion sale of advanced military helicopters to South Korea to counter escalating regional threats from North Korea.

The State Department finalized the high-profile foreign military sale, which delivers 36 Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters along with heavy engines, missile warning systems, and associated technical logistics.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency formally notified Congress of the approval on Tuesday, confirming that the strategic transaction aims to enhance South Korea’s sovereign defense capabilities and improve allied interoperability.

The major defense acquisition comes amid heightened geopolitical friction on the Korean Peninsula, fueled by Pyongyang's continuous missile testing and aggressive rhetorical posturing. Washington officials emphasized that the sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region but will significantly bolster Seoul’s current capacity to deter potential adversary actions.

This multi-billion-dollar deal underscores the enduring security alliance between the two nations as they coordinate to maintain stability across the Indo-Pacific theater.
