MOSCOW: World Gymnastics has lifted all restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes with immediate effect, allowing them to compete under their national flags and anthems.

The landmark ruling was finalized by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Executive Committee during its high-level session in Egypt. The administrative verdict successfully terminates the binding emergency regulations and strict ‘Ad-Hoc’  rules that were initially put in place in February 2022.

Prior to this breakthrough decision, athletes from both nations were explicitly barred from displaying state symbols and could only participate internationally as Individual Neutral Athletes.

The sweeping regulatory change applies across all operational gymnastics disciplines, including artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, acrobatics, and aerobics. Representatives from sports acrobatics are scheduled to be the first to formally raise the Russian flag at an upcoming World Cup event in Burgas, Bulgaria. The federation's historic shift marks a notable policy easing within the global sports community.
