GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to host an emergency committee meeting to address the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

An official WHO spokesperson confirmed the upcoming high-level gathering on Tuesday, May 19, amid mounting international concern.

The critical decision to convene independent experts follows recent warnings that the viral surge spanning the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring Uganda constitutes a serious global public health emergency. The administrative move underlines the sharpening geographical risk as health agencies scramble to coordinate an international response.

The designated emergency committee will formally evaluate the severity of the spreading pathogen and provide operational recommendations to curb cross-border transmission.

While global health officials previously declined to form similar committees for other concurrent viral threats, the historical virulence of Ebola has triggered immediate regulatory escalation. The impending discussions are expected to shape the deployment of vital containment resources, medical personnel, and vaccine distribution frameworks.
