Zelenskyy Warns Russia Could Launch Attack on NATO Territory From Belarus

Kyiv:Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia may be preparing to launch attacks on either northern Ukraine or a NATO member state from neighbouring Belarus, raising fresh concerns over regional security in Eastern Europe.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian intelligence had observed continued efforts by Moscow to draw Belarus deeper into the war and suggested that possible operations could target the Chernihiv-Kyiv region or NATO countries bordering Belarus, including Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has already ordered stronger defensive preparations along its northern border amid fears of a renewed offensive. He did not provide detailed evidence publicly but said intelligence assessments pointed to increased military coordination between Russia and Belarus.

Belarus, one of Russia’s closest allies, allowed Russian forces to use its territory during the initial 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Since then, Minsk has hosted Russian tactical nuclear weapons and hypersonic missile systems, further deepening military cooperation with Moscow.

Neither the Kremlin nor the Belarusian government immediately responded to Zelenskyy’s remarks. Russia has repeatedly denied any intention to attack NATO countries, while Western officials continue to monitor military activity near the alliance’s eastern flank.

The warning comes amid intensified Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine and growing tensions across the region following recent drone incidents near NATO borders.
