Kuwait Summons Iranian Ambassador Following Bubiyan Island Clash
Kuwait has summoned the Iranian ambassador in response to what officials described as an infiltration of Bubiyan Island by armed members linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Al Mashaan delivered an official protest note to Mohammad Toutonchi during a meeting held on Tuesday.
Kuwait strongly condemned the incident, which reportedly involved clashes between Kuwaiti armed forces and armed individuals allegedly associated with the IRGC.
State news agency Kuwait News Agency reported that Kuwaiti authorities called on Iran to immediately halt what they described as hostile actions.
The foreign ministry said Iran bears full responsibility for what it called a violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty and a breach of international law, the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
Al Mashaan reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter and said the country would take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
Iran had not immediately issued a public response to the accusations at the time of reporting.
