Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has strongly condemned what he described as the infiltration of members linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps into Bubiyan Island.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Albudaiwi said the alleged incident reflects what he called “hostile Iranian policies” that threaten regional security and stability.
He added that such actions represent attempts to destabilise peace in the Gulf region and undermine collective security, describing them as violations of international law, the United Nations Charter and principles of good neighbourliness.
The GCC Secretary General reaffirmed the bloc’s full support for Kuwait in all measures aimed at protecting its national security and maintaining the safety of citizens and residents.
No further details were immediately released regarding the reported infiltration or the number of individuals allegedly involved.
Bubiyan Island, located in north-eastern Kuwait near the Iraqi border and close to the Gulf’s strategic waterways, is considered an important area for Kuwait’s security and maritime infrastructure.
