Beijing:  As the international community prepares for a high-stakes meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, Beijing has signaled a clear desire for a more predictable global environment.

On Monday, the Chinese foreign ministry articulated a vision for "more stability" and "certainty" in a world characterized by volatility. This diplomatic overture underscores China's intent to frame the upcoming summit as a stabilizing force for the often-strained relationship between the world's two largest economies.

Central to Beijing's stance is the belief that "top-level diplomacy" serves as an "irreplaceable strategic guiding role" in navigating U.S.-China relations.

Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that direct engagement between the two leaders is the primary mechanism for managing the complexities of their bilateral ties.

By prioritizing this strategic dialogue, China appears to be positioning itself as a responsible global actor willing to engage in high-level mediation to prevent further escalation of international tensions.

Furthermore, China has outlined a framework for cooperation based on the principles of equality, respect, and mutual benefit. Guo Jiakun noted that Beijing is ready to expand cooperation while simultaneously working to "manage differences" with Washington.

This dual approach pursuing common interests while mitigating friction is intended to inject a sense of order into an "intertwined world". Ultimately, the upcoming meeting represents a pivotal moment for both nations to determine whether they can successfully pivot from competition toward a more stable and cooperative global partnership.
