ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is spearheading a major diplomatic effort to secure the repatriation of its nationals and Iranian seafarers currently held aboard vessels seized by the U.S. military.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reached out to his Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, to coordinate the safe return of the crew members, as the intercepted ships are currently positioned near Singaporean waters.
The mission focuses on the welfare of the seafarers who were aboard Iranian-flagged tankers intercepted during a recent maritime blockade. In a show of regional cooperation, Dar also consulted with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, affirming that Islamabad is prepared to facilitate the safe passage of Iranian nationals back to their home country via Pakistan.
Singaporean officials have lauded Pakistan’s proactive role in mediating between Washington and Tehran to ensure a humanitarian resolution to the standoff.
