Washington DC: Diplomats are nearing a historic breakthrough with a one-page memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at halting the war between the U.S. and Iran. According to a report by Axios, the one page memo currently being reviewed by both governments, serves as a ‘road map’ to end hostilities and freeze Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The core of the memo establishes a 30-day period of intense diplomacy. During this time, the U.S. has offered to begin lifting economic sanctions if Iran stops all uranium enrichment activities.
A key provision under discussion includes the unprecedented step of Iran transferring its enriched uranium stockpile to U.S. custody to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.
The agreement also addresses the global energy crisis by focusing on the Strait of Hormuz. The memo suggests a mutual de-escalation where the U.S. pauses its naval blockades in exchange for Iran ending attacks on international shipping.
While White House officials describe the memo as a ‘major step forward,’ they caution that the deal is not yet signed and depends on Iran accepting the strict framework.
