FDA halts publication of studies on covid, shingles vaccines

WASHINGTON DC: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has blocked the publication of several taxpayer-funded studies that confirmed the safety of COVID-19 and shingles vaccines.
The decision to pull the research, which analyzed millions of patient records and cost millions of dollars, was confirmed by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officials on Tuesday.
The research included a massive study of 7.5 million Medicare beneficiaries which found that serious side effects from the vaccines remain extremely rare.
Despite being accepted for publication by peer-reviewed journals, scientists were directed to withdraw the papers. HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon stated the studies were pulled because authors drew ‘broad conclusions not supported by the underlying data,’ though he did not provide specific evidence of errors.
The move has sparked intense criticism from the medical community, with some experts labeling the decision as ‘scientific censorship.’ Critics argue that suppressing safety data is part of a broader shift in health policy under the current administration.
Former FDA officials have noted a concerning pattern of withholding information that supports vaccine safety. While the agency continues to state that vaccine benefits outweigh risks, the suppression of these findings has raised serious questions regarding transparency and the integrity of federal health research.
