TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has pledged that Japan will take an ‘even more proactive role’ in ensuring a ‘free and open’ Asia-Pacific region.
Speaking to university students in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Prime Minister emphasized Japan's commitment to building an international order grounded in the rule of law, diversity, and inclusiveness.
This policy initiative, while aimed at regional stability, has historically caused tension with neighboring China. Takaichi’s remarks in Vietnam serve to highlight Japan's determination to fulfill its regional responsibilities and promote an environment of openness and freedom.
The speech, streamed by Japanese broadcaster NHK, reinforces Japan's foreign policy strategy of strengthening ties with Southeast Asian nations. By advocating for a rules-based order, Japan seeks to play a leading role in the evolving geopolitical landscape of the Asia-Pacific.
