Qatar Rejects Hormuz “Pressure Tool”

Qatar has firmly rejected any attempt to use the Strait of Hormuz as a means of political pressure, while reaffirming its support for regional mediation efforts, including those led by Pakistan, a foreign ministry spokesperson said.

Majed Al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister, stated that closing or restricting the vital maritime route is “unacceptable under any circumstances,” warning of serious repercussions for global energy supplies and food security.

He stressed that the Strait must remain open regardless of political or military developments, adding that any attempt to use it as leverage in conflicts is “completely rejected.”

Al-Ansari noted that disruptions in the waterway are already impacting global supply chains and do not serve the interests of any party involved.

Reaffirming Doha’s stance, he highlighted Qatar’s continued commitment to dialogue as the primary path to resolving regional tensions. He added that mediation efforts are being closely coordinated with Pakistan, which he described as playing a constructive role in ongoing negotiations.

Qatar also underscored the importance of coordination within the Gulf Cooperation Council, following a consultative summit held in Jeddah, reiterating the bloc’s unified position on pursuing swift diplomatic solutions.

Al-Ansari further said Qatar has taken all necessary steps to safeguard its national security amid heightened regional tensions, noting that most incoming missile threats have been successfully intercepted.

He added that Qatar will continue its mediation role across multiple regional issues, working alongside partners such as Egypt and Turkey, while welcoming broader international support for diplomatic efforts.
