Qatar warns against 'frozen conflict' in Gulf amid stalled US-Iran talks

DOHA: Qatar has issued a stern warning regarding the emergence of a ‘frozen conflict’ in the Gulf as peace negotiations between the United States and Iran reach a critical impasse. Despite a ceasefire initiated on April 8, diplomatic efforts to comprehensively end the war and reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz have proven inconclusive.
The strategic waterway has remained effectively closed for two months, prompting the White House to review Iranian proposals to unblock the route.
Qatari officials emphasize that a sustainable resolution is essential to prevent hostilities from being ‘thawed’ for future political reasons.
This instability follows a period of significant escalation that began on February 28, when Iran launched missile and drone waves against Gulf states in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli strikes. Without a definitive agreement, the region remains at risk of persistent volatility.
