South Sudan says 14 killed in plane crash near Juba
All 14 people on board a small passenger aircraft were killed when it crashed southwest of South Sudan’s capital Juba on Monday, the country’s civil aviation authority said.
The Cessna 208 Caravan, operated by CityLink Aviation, lost communication while flying from Yei to Juba International Airport, authorities said in a statement. The aircraft departed at 09:15 local time and went off radar contact at 09:43, according to the statement. There were 13 passengers and one pilot on board.
The victims included 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyan nationals. Preliminary indications suggest the crash may have been caused by poor weather conditions, including low visibility, the authority added.
