PARIS: A joint investigation team (JIT) has been established between Norwegian and French authorities to investigate alleged corruption involving prominent diplomats Mona Juul and Terje Rød-Larsen.

The investigation, led by Norway’s economic crime unit, Økokrim, focuses on the couple's historical ties to the deceased American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Juul and Rød-Larsen, who were instrumental in the 1990s Oslo Accords, are suspected of receiving improper benefits related to their professional positions.

The cooperation with France is intended to streamline the exchange of information without the need for repetitive formal requests.

French authorities are simultaneously investigating financial offenses related to individuals mentioned in Epstein’s files, including Fabrice Aidan, a former United Nations aide to Rød-Larsen.

Norwegian police began their inquiry in February, specifically examining whether Juul’s diplomatic roles were compromised by these connections.

Specific allegations under scrutiny include a 2011 trip to Epstein’s private island, the purchase of an Oslo apartment below market value in 2018, and payments for home-care services.

Furthermore, reports indicate that Epstein’s will designated $10 million for the couple's two children. Although Juul and Rød-Larsen have maintained their innocence and deny all charges, the international probe underscores the ongoing legal ramifications of Epstein's global network.
