TEXAS: The legal battle between Elon Musk and OpenAI has entered a critical phase as jury selection begins in a San Francisco courtroom. Musk, a co-founder of the AI lab, alleges that the organization has fundamentally betrayed its original non-profit mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

The lawsuit highlights a shift from an altruistic startup to a commercial powerhouse now valued at over $800 billion and heavily backed by Microsoft.

Musk's legal team argues that he was misled into investing millions under the guise of an open-source, non-profit structure. In contrast, OpenAI contends that the legal action is a ‘harassment campaign’ driven by ego and a desire to stifle a competitor to Musk’s own AI ventures.

With billions of dollars in potential damages and the leadership of Sam Altman at stake, the trial will examine whether OpenAI broke its foundational promises or successfully pivoted to lead a technological revolution. The outcome could redefine the ethical and corporate standards of the global AI industry.
