Boston: NASA astronaut and Massachusetts native Sunitha Williams completed the 130th Boston Marathon in 5:52:49, marking a remarkable return to running after spending months aboard the International Space Station. Williams, who was temporarily stranded in space due to issues with an experimental spacecraft, said adjusting back to gravity made running challenging but support from spectators kept her going. A veteran astronaut with 608 days in space and multiple spacewalk records, she described the Boston Marathon as a meaningful personal milestone, having first experienced it at age 17 and even running it on a treadmill in space in 2007.

Williams was also honoured by the Boston Athletic Association with the Patriot Award for her inspiring journey and service. She had previously expressed her goal of running the marathon on Earth again during a commencement speech, calling it a personal dream after years of training and living in space.
