Conakry: Access to several major social media platforms in Guinea was restored on Friday after a brief blackout that had affected users across the West African nation, bloggers and internet users said.
Authorities have not officially commented on the disruption, which was first reported by the Association of Guinea Bloggers (ABLOGUI) on Thursday.
The group said it had detected restrictions beginning Wednesday on platforms including Facebook, Messenger, YouTube and TikTok.
Guinea is led by Mamady Doumbouya, a former army general who seized power in a 2021 coup and was elected last December in a vote that excluded major opposition leaders.
Earlier this week, Guinea’s communications regulator, HAC, warned against what it described as “verbal attacks, unverified information and messages harmful to social cohesion,” without providing details.
ABLOGUI president Baro Conde welcomed the return of access, saying citizens would once again be able to exercise their freedoms of information and expression.
