Buenos Aires: President Javier Milei is set to visit Israel on Sunday for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Argentina’s presidency confirmed, as a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah takes effect.
This will mark Milei’s third trip to Israel since taking office. The libertarian leader has been a strong supporter of both Netanyahu and Donald Trump, consistently backing their policies.
Although raised in a Catholic family, Milei has shown deep interest in Jewish teachings and has openly supported recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. Last month, he described Israel as a “strategic ally” of Argentina, citing shared values between the two nations.
During his visit, Milei is expected to meet Netanyahu at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, a site he previously visited in February 2024 and June 2025.
Tensions between Argentina and Iran have recently escalated. Milei’s government expelled Iran’s diplomatic envoy after Tehran objected to Argentina designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group.
Iran’s foreign ministry responded by accusing Argentina of aligning itself with wrongdoing. In turn, Argentina has criticized Iran for failing to cooperate in investigations into past attacks, including the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people, and a 1992 attack on the Israeli embassy that left 29 dead.
Argentine courts have attributed both incidents to Iran, which has denied any involvement and refused to hand over suspects.
Argentina is home to Latin America’s largest Jewish community, with nearly 300,000 people, most of whom reside in Buenos Aires.
