Manama: Gulf nations along with Jordan have called on the International Telecommunication Union to condemn Iran for alleged attacks on critical telecommunications infrastructure and to monitor the resulting damage, according to a letter cited by AFP.
The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council—Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Oman—together with Jordan, circulated the letter among member states of the ITU Council, seeking formal action.
The document accuses Iran of carrying out “unlawful and unprovoked” attacks since February 28, 2026, using missiles and drones that allegedly targeted civilians and infrastructure, including communication networks in densely populated areas.
According to the UAE’s diplomatic mission in Geneva, the letter was distributed to all 48 council members of the ITU. It urges the agency’s decision-making body to consider a draft resolution condemning what it describes as Iranian attacks on telecommunications services in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, and Jordan.
The proposal is expected to be discussed during the ITU Council’s next annual session, scheduled to begin at the end of April.
