NEW YORK: Former Vice President Kamala Harris has signaled a possible third bid for the White House, telling an audience on Friday that she is "thinking about" running for president again in 2028.
Speaking with Reverend Al Sharpton at the National Action Network's annual convention in Manhattan, Harris responded to a direct question about her future plans by stating, ‘I might, I might. I’m thinking about it.’ The remarks drew enthusiastic cheers and chants of ‘Run again!’ from the crowd.
Harris, who served as vice president under Joe Biden before losing the 2024 election to Donald Trump, emphasized her readiness for the role, citing her extensive experience in the West Wing and the Situation Room. ‘I know what the job is, and I know what it requires,’ she said.
During her address, Harris criticized the current ‘status quo,’ arguing that it has failed many Americans for a long time. Since her 2024 defeat, she has maintained a relatively low profile, recently completing a book tour for her memoir, 107 Days.
Her appearance at the convention places her among a growing list of potential 2028 Democratic contenders, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who are also slated to speak at the event. Harris concluded her remarks on a cautious but open note: ‘I’ll keep you posted.’
