Islamabad:Pakistan has announced visa-on-arrival for travellers heading to Islamabad for the upcoming talks between Iran and the United States, reflecting strong international interest in the high-level diplomatic engagement.
The negotiations, set to begin on Saturday, follow a two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington after a period of escalating tensions. The truce, facilitated by Pakistan, has created a limited opportunity for dialogue aimed at easing the conflict.
Ishaq Dar said that all delegates, including journalists attending the Islamabad Talks 2026, will be eligible for visa-on-arrival. Airlines have also been asked to allow such passengers to travel without prior visas to ensure smoother entry.
The move is intended to encourage wider international participation, with diplomats, policymakers, and media representatives from several countries expected to attend. Authorities said the decision underlines Pakistan’s commitment to supporting dialogue during a critical phase in regional diplomacy.
Immigration officials have been instructed to provide full assistance at entry points to ensure a smooth and efficient arrival process for all participants.
Security has been significantly tightened in Islamabad ahead of the talks. The government has declared two local holidays, increased security around the Red Zone, and reserved the Serena Hotel for delegations. Traffic restrictions are in place, while emergency services and hospitals remain on high alert. A 30-member US advance team has already arrived to review preparations.
Pakistan has played an active mediating role by maintaining back-channel communication between Iran and the United States, while also coordinating with regional players such as China. Officials say Islamabad is positioning itself as a key diplomatic hub as both sides cautiously move towards negotiations.
