Under-17 volleyball team opened their Arab U17 Men's Volleyball Championship campaign in commanding fashion on Sunday, sweeping Jordan 3-0 in front of a home crowd in Riffa. The hosts secured a straight-sets win (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) at the Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena, collecting two points after dominating the contest from start to finish.
Speaking after the win, Bahrain's Hadi Abdulnabi said the team was already focused on what comes next. "We did well today, but we will put this match behind us and think about the next one," he said. "We will focus, prepare for it and train well. It will be a big match, and hopefully we can do well."
Team-mate Sayed Hassan Al Abbar shared a similar sentiment, praising the team's preparation. "Thank God for the victory. It was a good match and we prepared well for it," he said. "The most important thing is that we took the three points. Now we will prepare for the next match. Hopefully we will win again."
Coach Yusuf Khalifa's side set the tone early, racing to an 11-point win in the opening set that left Jordan chasing the game from the outset. The visitors showed more resistance in the second set but were unable to close the gap, and Bahrain closed out the match with a near-flawless third set, conceding just nine points.
Elsewhere on the tournament's opening day, Egypt also made a winning start, defeating Kuwait 3-0 to claim maximum points.
The championship, hosted in Bahrain, continues today with a full slate of fixtures: Jordan face Egypt at 3pm, Kuwait take on Saudi Arabia at 5pm, and Bahrain return to action against Algeria at 7pm. Bahrain will be looking to make it two wins from two, the match will be broadcast live on Bahrain Sports Channel. The tournament runs until August 19.
