Kyiv: At least eight people were killed and dozens wounded in Russian and Ukrainian strikes on Sunday, as fighting intensified across both countries and Ukraine accused Russia of targeting the strategic port city of Odesa.
Three people were killed and 37 injured when a multi-storey apartment building was hit in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine. In Russia's Belgorod region, authorities said a Ukrainian drone attack killed five people and wounded 25.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russian missiles and drones damaged Odesa's seaport, with local authorities reporting around a dozen injuries. He accused Moscow of threatening global food security because Odesa's ports are a major route for Ukraine's agricultural exports.
Russia said its forces struck fuel storage facilities serving the Ukrainian military at the ports of Odesa and nearby Chornomorsk. Ukraine also reported attacks on energy and oil facilities, with about 90,000 consumers in the Odesa region temporarily losing power.
The latest strikes come amid an expanding campaign by both sides against each other's military and economic infrastructure. Ukraine has targeted Russian vessels and oil-related facilities in the Black Sea, while Russian attacks have increasingly hit Ukrainian energy, logistics and fuel infrastructure.
