North Korean Hackers Use AI to Boost Cyberattacks

Seoul: A North Korean-linked hacking group is developing artificial intelligence tools that could help automate cyberattacks, analyse stolen data and create more convincing phishing campaigns, South Korean cybersecurity firm Genians said.
Genians said it found AI tools including Ollama, GPT4All and Msty on infrastructure linked to Kimsuky, along with technology that can search and analyse large amounts of documents without sending sensitive data to external AI services.
The group was also found using AI coding tools, speech-to-text software and frameworks for developing AI agents.
The findings suggest Kimsuky is expanding its use of AI beyond phishing to areas such as malware development, data analysis and attack automation, Genians said.
The firm also identified AI-generated documents made to resemble legitimate finance and cryptocurrency reports. Its findings could not be independently verified.
The US Treasury sanctioned Kimsuky in 2023, describing it as a North Korean government-controlled cyber-espionage group involved in gathering intelligence for Pyongyang.
